As a child growing up, there wasn't anything else I enjoyed more, then creating my own Lego city and playing it out as any child would do...........

Typical Lego illustration, giving characters to my lego people....

The reason I am talking about this, is to share with you the how it still relates to what I am doing and why I enjoy doing it.

I am just realizing the world I am creating, and with in that I still evoke the same emotions as I did as a child. This is why I enjoy what I do.......

Watsup Peeps, so today was our hand-in for the Des Baker group project, designing a future African City..........

This is the poster we came up with, Killa...........

The architectural solution was relevant and very creative, very happy with the outcome.......

Presentation in what we do is everything. Presentation in dress, presentation in work. Yes it matters......

Dressed like that, selling your work like this. Who in they right mind can say no, stay motivated.......

Pure Brutalism

Something interesting to note in our very own South Campus, is that it a type of Brutalist Architecture, a movement in architecture descending from the modernist architectural movement of the early 20th century.

The word originates from the French beton - "raw concrete" a term used by Le Corbusier.
Interesting I know...........
So for Urban Design we have to do a comparative analysis between NMMU South Campus and the Boardwalk in Summerstrand..... boring if you ask me, but hey just doing what I have to do.....

Anyway these are the images taken at the Boardwalk the other, thought I could share a few with you...

We basically need to discuss basic stuff as thresholds, moviement patterns, activity nodes, relation to context. etc. In actual fact it is a nice exercise, as it raises our awareness in and around buildings.....

Just came across this ill architectural magazine, in which I think have more stimulating interesting buildings than Archdaily..........

DesignBoom...........Enjoy..............

Just the type of insane designs you can expect to find on this site, Insane..................
Word of the week, in which I learnt last week in Design theory.....

Facadism - refers to an architectural and construction practice where the facade of a building was designed or constructed separately to the rest of a building. More often it refers to the practice where only the facade of a building is preserved with new buildings erected behind or around it.

An early example of facadism. The Old Commerce building at the University of Melbourne

What's poppin on this Saturday evening, Arch daily is. Guy's I tell you it is really helpful to stay tuned to what the world is doing in this called Architecture. I loved this house in the USA, and it the techtonic, materials, called it whatever, the free flowing arrangement of spaces that touches home for me. This is what I would call an attractive building.

The way this piece sits in this setting just makes wanna jump.....

Des Baker competition

http://architectureza.org/tomorrows-world-today-2015-des-baker/

The link above is the link for the competition, my ideas and thoughts for this project is one of being far into the world. These pictures best illustrate my thoughts......

The last picture is killer for me, my interpretation of this futuristic world we live in. As much there is a premise for this project, the question lies for the Architectural consequence for this - excited.........

Morning family, so we on our next design project. The fourth one of this semester - shoot me dead....

Anyway our fourth project does look fun and I have been enjoying it of late. It's titled 'Tomorrow's World Today'. A kind of generic title if you ask me. I'll keep y'all updated. Until then Dead.........

Design 3: Theatre Design Conceptual Renderings

This is what I have going so far with terms of the concept model, I think it is going in the right direction. In terms of material, Corten will be killer.....

Picture this on my design......

I'm going mad thinking about it, killer material for a Theatre in this given context. In my opinion it is a killer response to the site........

Tuesday, 12 May 2015

To add more depth into the section. I am thinking of doing two sections. one technical and a design section......

More in the depth of this one, I think it would look killer........

Design 3: Performance Theatre

Pretty pleased with this technical section..........

Design 3: Performance Theatre Drawings

Drawings came out well, I'm happy of how I responded to the plaza, check out my landscaping, super dope......

I am feeling this so much..........

Design 3: Performance Theatre

Thoughts on the idea of a building as a skin, I dig this so much. The way you can manipulate the skin on elevation appeals to me in my design. A big skin fan.......

Amazing.........

Design 3: Performance Theatre Process

Out of all the concept models I did for this one, I think this one really sells the idea of feeding off the plaza space, I think material choice was something to think about.....

Saturday, 9 May 2015

Guys you have to check out this link, by Daniel Libeskind on how he killed his theatre.....

http://www.archdaily.com/52814/grand-canal-theatre-daniel-libeskind/
Just imagine in we sitting in this context......

Remove the building above and slot in this guy........

It fits so well in this context against the greenery, the idea is to use this as my skin for this killa, I have this crazy image of how this is going to look. Super excited......
A new material that has blown me away and what I am obsessed with at the minute is corten steel, a serious consideration for the material of choice in this building.

Impressed, well you should be this is a killer material.
I am really taken by this design, because we are designing spaces we are not familiar with. I mean a Orchestra Pit, I was really blow away on how these spaces work........

Just thinking about the construction and how such spaces look on section really got me excited.......
What makes a good Foyer space, it's simply activity, designing activity nodes within one space, similar to Christopher Alexander's Pattern language pattern.....

Nothing better and excited to walk into a building filled with so much excitement and energy, agree?.....

Design 3: Performance Theatre process

So on the accommodation schedule we had to make space for a Black Box, I know what you thinking. What is a Black Box?

Intrigued? I know I am......
What's up family, thinking about atrium spaces, people tend to think about a large volume of space filled with light. In my opinion it is so much more than that, it's a space that should anchor your vertical circulation to maximize activity among people in a building.

This is a space I want to be in, considerations for the Theatrical experience....

Design 3: Performance Theatre design process

What up peeps, this is my first time doing a building to this scale. the program for this is crazy. The idea of resolving the privacy gradient issues really put me to sleep.

In this building talking about a Green room, I mean what is that about; which is actually the performers on suite to relax before being called on stage. I stubbled upon this Green room below, and I thought I wouldn't mind being a actor.....

Design 3: Peformance Theatre process

Do really respond to the square I really enjoyed this kind of space this plaza really captures.

What a place, entriched with so much life and character, this is the experience I want to bring into this theatre.......

Design 3: Performance theatre - design process

On our forward, I compiled a precedent studies of the kind of activities held in a performance, and really tried to understand the programmatic organization of this type of theatre.

The analysis thus far is not yet finished, its rouhgly 3 pages of Precedent studies, really understanding what makes a theatre.

Project 3" Performance Theatre

Getting back to the all process of the design, we had a option to select between two sites. The comparative analysis below is an exploration of the both.

I decided to select Site A, for reason being that it is a sloping site, which in my opinion and can be dramatic for this Theatre design project.

Sunday, 3 May 2015

So much happened through April yo, I forgot to fill you in om my moments.... At the prize giving I walked away with two awards.

Best Student Integrating Design & CAD Under Graduate (Architectural Technology)

Best Student in 3rd year (Architectural Technology: Undergraduate)

Design 3: Performance Theatre Site

Our site is situated at the Lower Baakens Valley......

This Outdated looking building is the position to where our site is situated. It's a dramatic site, with opportunities to really dramatize the theatrical experience.

8 metre fall yo, what a site for a theate, with these hectic views of the South End valley. Great opportunities for this type of building....
What's happening peeps, I just realized that I haven't blogged for more than a month, so let me fill ja in on what's happening with my work yo.....

Our third design project,  a Performance Theatre....

A interesting project, let me digest into the grits of things.........
